When you attend one of our seasonal floral design shows, you might notice the donation bowl we put by the free donuts and coffee. It is marked with a sign "Joseph Shinoda Memorial Scholarship". What is it? Joseph Shinoda was my great-great uncle. He was the president of the San Lorenzo Nursery & Flower Company. During his presidency, San Lorenzo became the largest floral wholesaler in the nation. He was also very active in the industry becoming the president of numerous national floral organizations and associations. After his death, the Joseph Shinoda Memorial Scholarship was established to provide for the future of the floriculture industry by helping college students seeking degrees in the field.
